I am guided by my intuition…
My work is experiential and is influenced by the inherent beauty of organic shapes, patterns, and details I observe in nature and architectural forms.
Memory is a central theme. It creates a dialogue with the viewer discovering meaning in my work. Embedded in each composition are images, remnants of found papers, and other materials that reflect a time, place or person.
Working with layers I apply an encaustic wax-based medium to a mixed media and collage composition. This allows me the freedom to spontaneously arrange and rearrange materials while also working to apply color.
Photography is another art form that inspires my work. I am interested in how light captures a moment in time or how it frames an object. I gravitate towards the details found in nature and the geometrical forms found in architecture. These extremes-one naturally evolving and the other man-made, coexist with one another.
Artist Statement
Veronika Herman Bromberg grew up with immigrant parents from former Czechoslovakia, both involved in creative fields. Her father was an award-winning documentary filmmaker turned commercial producer/director. Her mother was a published author/translator and celebrated animal rights activist. Being surrounded by creative minds, Veronika became interested in working with art materials and teaching younger audiences. These interests would develop and evolve into the Artist and Art Educator she is today.
Veronika attended the famed Laguardia High School of Music & Art. Based on the merit of her art portfolio, she was the recipient of the Rosenberg Art Scholarship while attending Goucher College. Eventually she transferred to Oberlin College, where she received her Bachelor’s of Art degree. She went on to receive her Masters of Education from Columbia University.
Her work has been exhibited in solo and numerous group exhibitions in Maryland & Washington, DC galleries. She was a resident artist at Washington ArtWorks in Rockville, Maryland where she exhibited regularly and maintained a studio. Veronika’s work is in several private international art collections including Italy, Germany, France, Israel, and the Czech Republic. Veronika lives in New York City and Salisbury, CT, where she maintains an art studio.
